This is Pictorial Narrative of the normal daily routine of an Army National Guard Unit in Iraq, Apache Troop, First Squadron 278th Regimental Combat Team. There is substantial narrative to explain the nature of daily operations common to many combat arms units. Over 135 photographs with concise and informative narrative for each with opinion and tactical insight added for easy understanding of what a soldier generally does. COVER: While working on target arrays and training lanes for the Iraqi ING my MiTT team members painted the HESCO barriers with graffiti, including naming the abandoned FOB Knott FOB Hendy because of all the work we had done. The title of "Defending the Frontiers of Democracy" refers to my response when asked what I was doing on National Guard drill weekends back in Tennessee, but it aptly applied to Iraq in a more serious manner so I kept it for the book.
