OMG, this is a heartwrentching book. It was a page-turner from the very beginning. I can only imagine what this family went through. Chris's courage and determination to be "normal" was such an inspiration. As a mother, you try to make the right choices for your children, but in this case the choices were not always the right ones. Though I can't say that in the same situation I would not have made the same decisions. I would recommend this book to anyone who has teenagers, knows someone who is depressed or suicidal, or going through any kind of tragic time. It is an inspirational story to all of us.

This book is brutally frank and honest about all the horrible things this family went through. It is told through a mother who stayed by her son's side as he went through depression and then a suicide attempt where he shot himself in the head. She describes her pain at his every wrong turn and his pain throughout. The story has a good ending, but it was tough getting there. This is a powerful book that leaves you wondering what you would do in that situation. If you are struggling with depression, serious illness, body image, or any kind of tough time, this is the book for you.

I picked this book up and couldn't put it down. I was spellbound. It's a gripping story that grabbed me and held on. I have not been able to get it out of my mind since I read it. If you or anyone you know has ever made a very bad impulsive decision you should read this book. It is a story of survival and a miraculous recovery. Unbelievably great book. I will be writing a review of Face to Face by Judith Casey for the NY Resident magazine. Look for it in the August or September issue. — Dorri Olds
