Ghetto Chick is a book of urban writings written during a period when the author was dealing with failed love interests, being a single parent, self-esteem issues, and her relationship with Christ.
"Ghetto Chick"
Arlinda gives the reader an intimate look of her relationships through her heartfelt poetry. She places us in the living room with "He Never Denies Me", and goes on to take us into the private conversations of a love gone wrong with, "Do She Know About Me?." Arlinda takes us through the tragedies and triumphs of her relationship struggles, and shows us that there is hope with, "Made For More."
For me she seems to place it all in perspective with the poem,"Shine For You." There she tells of the decision to get it together for the true loves of her life. If you're looking to read some poetry that's spoken from the heart, then Ghetto Chick is the book for you!!!
"Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful!"
Ghetto Chick is a 21st century look at a woman going through heartache and with the help of God she overcomes with amazing leaps and bounds. When reading, I could not help but get emotional at some of the words as I felt the same emotions that I am sure every woman has felt at one time or another. This work is a testimony to the trials and tribulations that relationships bring. But with strength, determination and God, nothing can hold a woman back from the prosperity that she is destined to have!Kudos!I will be on the look out for more from Ms. McKinley.
What can I say. Ghetto Chick is as real as its gets. This book is not just for women I think men should read it too. Bravo, I'm glad to have it in my library and can't wait until the next one comes out.
