James Perfect will be the first child to land on the Moon but when his space shuttle collides with an alien probe and causes a terrible accident, James finds himself with super powers as well. The trouble is, no-one seems to want to let him use them. That is, until the aliens turn up on Earth looking for their probe and causing havoc. "Perfect Boy - A Perfectly Exciting Story."
I love a good space opera, and this one was firing on all rockets. James Perfect is a fine combination of Everykid, Genius and Superhero, and I was much entertained by his adventures. On the face of it, this is an action-based children's sf, but there's a solid core of themes and values. James is the perfect boy to save the world.
"Simply Perfect for Everyone"
Just finished reading the book – it is perfect lol. It arrived today and I have to admit I could not put it down once I started. Nice twist with the different types of aliens – not what I expected at all. Good to see Aussie references – Mt Kosciusko, Centrepoint Tower, Bondi, etc.
As a high school teacher, I can see a market for not only 8-10 year readers but also older readers with lower literacy levels – not “dumbed down” in any way and enough higher level concepts to interest even adults. The main point I love about this book is that it shows the parent's views as well as the child's - Mum learns to let go a bit but James also learns to accept some responsibility too.
This is the start of something big for this author.
