If I could recommend to you just one book after the bible, no matter where you are in your walk, it would be If I Could Tell You Just One Thing, by master wordsmith/witness/exegete Nathan Pitchford. In this deteriorating, distressing God-forsaking country, Nathan Pitchford, with pastoral passion and plain English, unapologetically pulls no punches. To wit, “much of Christianity in modern America, for all its outward prominence, is largely corrupt and has obscured the gospel in many ways ” (pg 170), and “On the day of Judgment, many people will cry out ‘Lord, Lord!’ –but he will answer them, to their shame and surprise, ‘I never knew you’” (pg 183). With nearly 500... More > scriptural proofs in 200 pages, he makes a powerful point. Whether you are a non-christian or Christian, atheist or agnostic, Catholic or Protestant, “genuine [and how to tell] local church” member or not, you owe it to your eternal soul to read this book and examine your heart. For each of these groups, Greek and Hebrew scholar Pitchford presents the best witness I have ever read outside Holy Writ. In the process he teaches you how to read the bible, perhaps even those of you who thought you already knew how.
His concluding chapter on judgment day, heaven and hell is stark eternal truth that will compel you to re-examine your status with God, to work out, with fear and trembling, your salvation…if, indeed, the Holy Spirit dwells in you. < Less
