This book is a strong, mutilayered example of a hugely popular genre. It is fantasy and adventure, with a glimpse into a possible parallel reality of someone else’s imagining. But it is not a “fantasy” or “science fiction” novel; if we are looking for a category, then it falls into the attractive definition of “magical realism”. Within a “fantasy” structure, Rose Leng has in fact created a literary novel of character and situation.

Rotated 180 degrees on a horizontal axis so that it is upside down, it denotes the maternal essence that it sometimes linked to the sport of football. Read right side up, it concisely conveys the kind of extreme enthusiasm with which this riddle-filled, code-breaking, exhilaratingly brainy fantasy can be recommended. That word is WOW. The author is Rose Leng (a name you will want to remember). In this gleefully erudite fantastic novel, Ms. Leng fine-tunes her unique style to a blockbuster perfection.
