This book allows us into the life of Mick Karn; inside his thoughts and motivations to create, his will to sculpt and survive, and what experiences have brought him thus far.
I pretty much only read autobiographies and this one is the best I've read. It is brutally honest and emotional. It brought me to tears a few times. An inspiring story by someone with an obviously huge amount of self belief but little sense of social recognition.
i didn't want this book to end! that's probably about as high praise as i can give a book. mick is honest and goes into detail, and as others have said, it is an emotional read. it brought me to tears on more than one occasion - i thoroughly recommend it.
I am very pleased with the book so far. It is an interesting and enjoyable reading and I really appreciate the style of it. It is as captivating as all Mick's musical works. Many things correlate with my own view of life and people. You just can't but feel sympathy and respect for the author in so many moments. Very humane work.
Thank you a lot.
I'm addicted to musicians' autobiographies, and this is one the best I've read yet, right up there with Bill Bruford and Nick Mason. Oddly enough, I'd never heard of Mick Karn (or even Japan) before I saw him live in Halmstad at the IB Expo. Mighty good musician, and a very good writer. Any musician - and not only bassists - should have this in their mandatory reading list.
