There are 166 pages in this book, and Haiku parts begins at the page 104. Almost two-third of this book is teaching you how to program in C++.

This is an excellent primer for writing applications for the Haiku operating system, the open source rewrite of BeOS. This book starts with no assumptions about your programming experience and by the end you are writing full GUI applications, using the Haiku C++ APIs. As someone with UNIX programming experience I skipped ahead a few chapters to get to my level. Each chapter is specific in what it presents, and malformed code puzzles are presented to get you thinking about bugs. I also found the Paladin development environment very useful and used it to port an old BeOS application that needed some rewrite. I hope other developers find this book as useful as I did, and I hope more people use it to write applications for Haiku.
