"Great Book"
Brad Guigar's Best of Lightning Lady is a terrific book. I never read Greystone Inn so the inclusion of a character page at the beginning was a nice addition.

The book reads like the life and times of Lightning Lady. You are introduced to people she works with, her boyfriends, and an interesting assortment of villains along the way. Not every strip has Lightning Lady in them but they are all related to her in some way. Some were of her ex-boyfriend Keagan doing relationship jokes during his stand-up comedy set. Others were of a fellow member of Evil Anonymous talking to the group.

What really makes this book stand out is the formatting. Brad didn't use... More > the three to four strips per page layout like most collections. He has broken each strip apart and resized each panel, either larger or smaller. This gives it a graphic novel look while retaining the humor of the original formatting.

Ultimately a book is based on its content. Brads art and writing style are easy flowing and realistic. The characters show their emotions with a glint in their eye, drooping shoulders, or a clenched fist. There is nothing extraneous in the art. If two characters are talking then that is what you see. When something extra is added it will most likely contain something humorous. A table of pamphlets at the Evil Anonymous meeting each has a funny title. T-shirt art or license plates will make you grin. The writing always has a gag, play on words, an occasional pun, or something that make you laugh without it being known by the second panel. This is the mark of someone who writes well.

Anyone interested in reading a funny, well-done comic should pick this up. Brad Guigar is a master at his craft and the Best of Lightning Lady is an excellent introduction to his work.
