Nobilis combines a sense of humor with a sense of sensuality and the occasional flash of brilliance in this erotic novella.

The chapters are well-paced and although he wrote it as a serial for his podcast, you never get the sense that he is repeating himself to give you background at each new chapter. I love the device of taking the famous line -- "But mama, he hasn't got anything on at all!" -- and continuing the story of the Emperor and his obsession with clothes, and how that affects the people.

Verity's struggle with her guilt about her own exhibitionist streak rings true and adds unexpected depth to the fairy... More > tale, while John Spiker is deliciously naughty; the sex fits into the story, rather than the story existing to give an excuse for sex.

The writing is consistently good and if the novella has a few rough patches, well, I've read a lot of books from major publishers that have many more flaws than this one, without nearly as much quality to balance the weak spots.

I'll buy the next Nobilis book for sure. < Less
