Really enjoyed this collection of essays detailing some of the old pulp heroes (detectives, tarzan rip-offs, WWI flying aces and super-spys). The essays are more recaps of the entire series with a focus on the author's favorite issues and main characters. There are some light criticisms by the author but limited mostly to opinions on the individual issues of a series. It did however make for some interesting reading particularly the PETS OF SATAN, CONTEMPLATING SEX AND TORTURE IN THE PULPS, THE BRAIN THAT LIVES IN A BOX and THE MYSTERIOUS WU FANG portions. If you like the old pulps or have an interest then this'll give you a good idea about what you can expect from them. Though this collection seems to focus on the pulp second stringers (Tarzan and DR Fu Manchu being the primary examples) but there is a section on Zorro. Overall I recommend it, it made for interesting reading. Hopefully they'll be another collection like this one.
