"Evocative and beautiful" What a find! I wasn't sure about a "Phantom" story working out in a present-day setting, but J.C. Sillesen made me believe. She deftly handles POV changes and illustrates her scenes with description that makes my jaw drop. You can literally *see* what's going on. The cast of characters are both memorable and compelling; you feel for both the endearing Christine and the enigmatic Erik. She is able to transplant the romantic feel of the Phantom legend to modern times, a fete that is to be applauded.

I am frankly surprised this was not put out by a New York publisher -- the writing is that good. But I have no doubt that Ms. Sillesen will find her way there, judging by this beautiful story. An excellent read, like a sweet treat or a fine wine -- good over and over again.

"Review of No Return" Although a very well written and researched novel, I was disappointed in the actions of what was meant to be the hero of the piece, someone the reader is meant to feel for almost as much as the heroine. People who use their wealth to get what they want have never impressed me. Surely Eric could have come up with some other way to approach Christine other than to get someone to kidnap her for him. Even though they got around it in the end, he could have come up with something more imaginative that would have warmed the reader more to his tragic physical misfortune. The police investigation was extremely believable and well researched. On the whole an interesting and imaginative modern take on the old Phantom tale, and I could not fault the writing, other than the author did get bogged down a bit with detailed descriptions of rooms, surroundings etc. I hope she writes more novels in thie vein in the future.

"A wonderful read" I'm not even a huge Phantom fan, but I loved this book (I've loved pretty much everything J.C. Sillesen has written...I just hope this is the first of many we'll actually see in print). No Return has it all -- romance, suspense, humor, brilliant characters, gorgeous descriptions, and a plot that will keep you guessing right up until the end. Frankly, it's better than most "published" books I've read!

"Best modern-day Phantom story!" I read an earlier version of this novel online and am SO happy it's now available in book format! The characters remain themselves but also work perfectly within a contemporary setting, and the writing itself is lush, poignant, romantic, and ultimately satisfying. Besides Susan Kay's Phantom, I can't think of a Phantom of the Opera story that moved me more. No Return is a must-have for any phan's library!
