Rabbit & Bear's cross-country adventure is illustrated with great graphics that chronicle the story and spark the reader's imagination. It's a kid-friendly animal adventure that has enough humor and life lessons to make it easy for adults to enjoy it. As if that's not enough of a treat for readers, there's even a delicious recipe at the end for (vegan-friendly!) chocolate chip cookies that you can make together, just like Bear. Be sure to master the "cookie math" before you share them, though... This is one of those books that you'll buy for your kids, fall in love with, and then secretly hope that they'll pick it every night for their bedtime story. I'm hoping for a sequel, too!

This book is a positive delight for adults and kids alike.

First of all, I found the art, with its muted tones and unusually texture, both soothing and gorgeous. I eventually found out that the author/artist got the unusual texture by taking a piece of brown Kraft paper and altering it digitally, which is amazing enough, but that doesn't explain the sheer light-handed fun with which he must have gone about deciding what to illustrate, and how.

Second, the story's great. It's simple -- two friends, Rabbit and Bear, take a road trip -- but it's also about friendship, about enjoying the journey (even when you run out of cookies), and the unexpected delights that you find along the way.

My... More > favorite bit (and there's stiff competition) is when a butternut squash joins Bear and Rabbit on their journey to the Pacific Ocean:

"The squash didn't have a ride, Rabbit explained, but he could give directions. Bear couldn't turn is back on a squash. Especially a squash with a plan."

Priceless. < Less

"Love it! " I thought the Squash was an adorable twist to the story. I love the recipe in there too! Illustrations are great, and very fitting to the story!! Text is interesting and worked well with the story. The story itself, a great little adventure!! Waiting to see where they go next! Congrats.. Lucy Staples, Author/Illustrator

"Road Trip" What a fantastic find! Cuddly, cute protagonists have a big adventure by way of a cross country road trip. The story is intended for children, but Bear and Rabbit have distinct personalities, and their interaction made me think a lot about the big career change I'm undertaking. I can't wait for their next adventure. Recommended for all ages; worth reading over and over again.
