"Review of Silent Scream by Author Barbara Watkins"
I literally read this book from start to finish without taking a break. It's apparent that the author, Yvonne Mason, did an extensive amount of research to create this literary masterpiece. In this day and age our crime investigators have such resources as 'DNA' 'Behavioral Science' and 'Profiling' to help assist in their investigations... not so in 1973.

Through this brilliant literary piece the author takes the reader back in time, to 1973, and gives the reader an 'in depth' look inside the mind of a prolific serial killer known as 'Gerard John Schaefer.' The reader must be warned, much of the material is disturbing and... More > graphic in nature. However, I'm a firm believer that the repetition of violence causes we as a society to become desensitized, callous towards victims of such tragedies.

In writing 'Silent Scream' the author introduces the innocent victims one by one, revealing each of their personalities, giving them a voice to be heard.
Through transcripts and letters the author takes you into the courtroom so you can experience the trial of this notorious killer, giving great detail to specifics that at last lead up to his conviction. For me, reading 'Silent Scream' was an eye opening experience. It reminded me how vulnerable we truly are, especially our young children.

The suffering, humiliation, and torture that these innocent victims endured before their tragic death is incomprehensible. Yvonne Mason brings their story to light, and through her words she speaks for those lives that have been silenced...

"Silent Scream" is an impeccable work of literature, expressed with sensitivity, written by one talented writer, 'Yvonne Mason.

"Compelling, Incredible, Chilling Story"
I finished Silent Scream in one day and I can honestly say it is one of the most incredible, frightening and compelling books I've ever read. When I picked up Silent Scream this morning, I paged through it from the back to the front, and a certain face struck me. I stared at that picture and got chilled. The boyish looks of this man were at war with his eyes. I've heard that the eyes are the windows of your soul. For Schaefer, I guess this was true. His eyes bothered me. I raised the book up, saw the caption, and knew why I was afraid. The photo was of Gerard J. Schaefer.

Page by page, chapter by chapter, I was drawn into Silent Scream,... More > into the stories of these girls and the madman who held them captive, then destroyed them in every way that it is possible for one human being to do in another. Schaefer was different from the average criminal. He was smart and wily as a fox. He played every angle, even maneuvering law enforcement officers, the press, supposed girlfriends and family in an attempt to achieve his twisted goals. Schaefer's trial, jail time and subsequent unending appeals were, indeed, a "circus".

This is powerful writing. Silent Scream is a book you really want to forget, but you can't. Your own sense of self-preservation pleads with you to file the story away in the depths of some deep, dark dungeon of your mind, where you don't have to deal with the pain and anguish Schaefer caused so many people. I can't. I won't.

I'm still reeling from what Ms. Mason has written and she deserves every iota of praise she receives for writing this masterpiece. For the innocent girls and unnamed victims yet to be discovered, we thank you. < Less

"Horrifying and Compelling – One Incredible Read!"
Silent Scream takes you from the beginning to the end of serial killer Gerard Schaefer’s horrendous killing spree and then through the myriad of complexities in the criminal justice system. I was literally glued to this book! This book is disturbing, but I still found that I couldn’t put it down. But what’s even more disturbing is that the serial killer was a police officer who used his badge and gun to terrorize, torture, and kill young women in Florida between 1966-1972.

Books that involve serial crime, either fiction or nonfiction, fascinate me. Yvonne Mason has expertly crafted this true crime story to unfold with... More > a continued escalating pace. A real page-turner! She has captured the evil soul of Gerard Schaefer and has also given a voice to the many victims. The extensive research conducted for this book is absolutely top notch.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys true crime or crime fiction genres. I’m anxious to read more books by this author in the future.

Yvonne Mason brings the evil mind of Gerard Schaefer to your finger tips. He is one of the most evil and cunning serial killers in Florida during the early 1970's. Each page will take you further into his mind. Yvonne Mason also releases the victims screams. Allowing you to hear them.
This is one book worth reading. If... More > you are interested in serial killers or thrillers this is the book for you. Nothing is left unturned. Yvonne Mason has done her research and has done it well.
I find what I liked most was that the author did not lose sight of the victims but allowed them to tell their stories.

I rate this as a 10 star book. An exciting, thrilling and disturbing read. The moment you pick it up you will not want to put it down. After you are done reading it you will have trouble not thinking about it. Each page will turn its-self taking you from the childhood of Gerard Schaefer to his last days on earth.
