The writing style and narration of the main characters throughout these stories is amazing, and the sheer pleasure derived from sharing their innermost thoughts and fears as these tales unfold cannot be understated. The dialogue is great; when two or more characters engage in witty banter, curses and references and tangents roll from page to page like a machine gun loaded with bon mots. Some of the narrators are monster hunters, some are hard-nosed noir types, and there's one hyper-evolved sentient god-satelite... but the best of the best in this collection comes from an eccentric soul... More > that is beautifully, painfully human. Even when - especially when - the lone narrator is talking to himself in the dead of night, the internal monologues and deep introspection are a joy to read.

A bit of advice: skip to the last story and read it first. The author hides his sharpest blade behind his back in this collection, and it stabs straight for the heart. < Less
