It pains me to write this, as I am very sympathetic to the topic of this book, and am appreciative that it has been finally translated into English. Unfortunately, the quality of the translation dooms this book and makes it virtually unreadable. It appaears that the translation was simply a literal word-for-word job done without consideration of nuance of German or English. The translator really should have consulted a historian for proper terminology, as certain German words such as "Gauleiter" and Wehrmacht" need no Englsih translation, especially given the probable knowledge of a reader interested in the topic. "District Leader" is ridiculous, as is "Colonel of the General of the Armed... More > Forces" for the title GeneralOberst der Wehrmacht", or "army group 'middle'" for Army Group Center". as these are not literal. Also, the use of Germanized spelling of Russian names "Iwan Rokkosowskij" is irritating. Having had relatives who participated and survived the Vertreibung, I came away disappointed that their story will remain so muddled for English speakers. < Less

"The Big Trek" A compilation of some of the many stories that arose out of the ashes of the Second World War. This book tells the stories of many of those directly affected by the conflict as well as the tens of thousands that cannot speak for themselves. A riveting read that is hard to put down. I am so glad that this book is now available in English and available for all to read. "Lest We Forget"
