"Insightful & Entertaining -- Damn good read!"
Lawyers and laughter don't normally go together, but both are found in abundance in Gary Britson's hilarious and poignant novel, THE COURTHOUSE RECORD STORE.

Main character, Stone, is descended from a line of proud, conniving lawyers, but he turns his heritage on its head when he opens a used record store in the office that was once run by his father and grandfather. Local characters who frequent the place include George, a former rock star who now sits silently in the back of the store, perpetually turning his guitar; Austin Bowie III, an urbane, mild-mannered murderer who, despite a mountain of evidence screaming his guilt, was... More > acquitted of killing his sister; and Eldon "Booger" Jones, the town Judas-goat: a slow-witted man in his thirties who lives in a group home and spends his days collecting empty bottles from roadsides and being beaten up by "the local young heroes" who prove their manhood by menacing him.

When "Booger" Jones is one day charged with robbing Griger's Jewelry Store, Stone dons his attorney hat to defend this defenseless man against a crusading, out-of-control prosecutor.

Peppered with short, entertaining asides about local Iowa rock band, the Snot Rockets, musings about John Lennon and the state of the legal profession, COURTHOUSE has the measured appeal of small-town America laced with a razor, worldly wit.
