When Melissa was five years old she had a secret- she had a fairy for a best friend. But travel between the two worlds is only possible once every seven years, and the two were forced to say goodbye. They promised to meet again in seven years, but when he arrived to keep that promise, Zakkaerion, was heartbroken to discover that Melissa had long-since moved away. Fourteen years later Melissa finally returned-but like most humans upon reaching adulthood-could no longer see him. Knowing that his time on Earth would be short, Zakk is desperate to renew contact. To Aiden, his impulsive companion, the answer is simple; using a dreamthorn on her will allow a human to permanently see and hear all Fae. Zakk hesitates, but Aiden makes the decision for him. Though furious at Aiden, the problem has been solved; Melissa can once again see and hear him. Joy turns to confusion however, when the young woman reacts to the sight of him with horror, and denies even knowing him as a child!
