The Horace Chronicles is a frighteningly funny series of tales based on the adventures of the maddening quasi-lickspittle cum megalomaniac, Horace. Each tale, doused in sidesplitting “gaper’s block” humour, outdoes the one before it. The reader is lead on a bizarre journey through the twisted psyche of Scott Adelmann’s “modern day anti-hero” as he cycles through the discovery that he isn’t all that and so much more, as he has wrongly convinced himself that he is.



I quickly found out that the surgical waiting lounge at the hospital is not the ideal locale for allowing Horace to use his faulty powers of persuasion to overcome my aversion to... More > slimy, shallow men, their cheesy pickup lines and far reaching anecdotes. My ineffectively smothered snickers and unexpected guffaws were enough to raise eyebrows and start a chain reaction of finger-pointing ending at the security desk… Take caution where YOU settle down to read it. Make yourself comfortable as you will not be entertaining interruptions for the duration of the book.



This book is chock full of the kind of poetry you didn’t encounter in high school literature, where you quite assuredly found yourself note-writing your own way to teenage misadventures (sans accordion) instead of learning to appreciate the art of poetry and give it the respect it so deserves. In the end, despite the expected hurdles, you will develop an affinity, or at the very least, an amused tolerance for Horace and his accordion, couched in slyly penned prose poetry.



Prose poetry of this sort will latch hold with tenterhooks and leave you feeling that it’s been a part of your soul all along. This gift comes from the skill and voice of the writer himself. Knowing Scott Adelmann personally, I can honestly whisper to you that his poetry is addictive... Sometimes you will lose yourself in the lovely longing infused in his beloved verse (such as is showcased in his book entitled Highest Motions) and as often as not, you will read with a hand clapped over your mouth, stifling the shrieks of laughter and exclamations of shocked indignities that The Horace Chronicles will elicit, as will Scott’s up and coming Nights to Remember.



In my humble opinion, the poetry of Scott Adelmann will quickly become a staple in your reading repertoire . For those of you who’ve been known to shun the poetic voice, you will find that it’s silky whisper will fill your consciousness and drag you ‘Don Juan meets Genghis Khan’ style over to the reformed side of the poetry in motion movement. Make ready and arm yourself with your writing utensil of choice and a stack of ‘odd and end’ papers that litter the battlefield of your life. You have now been drafted into the Poetry Revolution.

"Horace Chronicles" The unlikely hero, self centered, shallow. You actually make him likable. In my humble opinion this is some of your best work. Amusing, harsh and at times, brilliant.
