The King of the World tells the story of Vlad III, also known as Vlad the Impaler or Vlad Tepes, the ruler of Wallachia, in the fifteenth century. He was known for the atrocities that he committed during his rule. His life has given rise to many vampire legends. It is considered that Bram Stoker, the author of Dracula got inspiration from the story of Vlad III. In this novelette, the author has tried to present the story of Vlad III, unknown to most of the people in a fictious way. The novelette interwoves history and fiction so effectively that one cannot be distinguished from the other.
