"Check this one out." As a member of the online community where this novel was originally released, and having read several of Mr. Williams' other short stories which he has kindly made available for free, and as a writer myself, I can without doubt state that I see him as an up-and-coming talent in the field of speculative fiction (SF), with storytelling skill, a great sense of humor, and most importantly, enough of a background in science to write believable SF tales that *make you think*.

Which is really the whole point! Three thumbs up for MOPI (that's both of mine, and one of yours).

Words fail me when I try to think of a way to describe this book...at once apocalyptic and infinitely hopeful, this book stirred profound feelings in me...I felt like I was reading humanity's own epitaph, or perhaps a birth announcement printed in an ancient newspaper. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but I'll say that the way the story is brought full circle is absolutely masterful...dare I say, biblical in its epicness? The sex and violence are indeed extremely graphic, and perhaps not to everyone's taste. These elements don't necessarily take away from the underlying concepts and philosophies being presented in the book, but those concepts are so fascinating and powerful in and of... More > themselves that I think the book could have worked without the sex and violence...but as I write this I realize then that perhaps the most basic point of the book would have been lost in translation, that is mankind's infinite capability to endure...and inflict...anything we can imagine for and upon ourselves. Amazing book, endlessly fascinating...I will think about it for a long time after finishing, that is for sure. Highly recommended for anyone brave enough to look into the abyss, and willing to accept what they see, no matter how deep the rabbit hole goes... < Less

"Excellent read" Though the story and its characters delve into areas of sex, sadism, and masochism that may not be for the squeamish, these extremes are a necessary part of this excellent piece of speculative fiction. I started reading the story just to see what quality of work is available on Lulu, but I couldn't put it down after the first chapter.

"Amazing story" When this novel first appeared in the Kuro5hin online community, it was one of the most discussed stories of the site. Roger's story touched a nerve, and I believe most of us who read it were much affected by it. This is one of the most talented sci-fi writers of our time, and his many other Kuro5hin stories are also highly recommended.
