"THE ORGAN is Revealed!"
This is a big book, so big that you may hurt yourself lugging it to the bathroom. It's equivalent to schlepping nine 32-paged newspapers and that portends a wonderfully long time spent in the bathroom. Perhaps it's best read in the parlor with your noon-day bong close by?

It will take you days, if not weeks, to get through this 300+ page coffee-table-sized book. It's chock full of subversive articles, cartoons, editorials, diatribes, and other insanities from the wonderful years of 1971-1972 when Milhouse Nixon ruled the world and drugs and sex were completely legal. But maybe I remember incorrectly?

Check out the Table of Contents in the... More > Preview of this book to see what was on the minds of the stalwart editors of THE ORGAN. There's something for everyone. Bikers, dopers, nuns, Scientologists, and even an occasional "normal" show up in just about every article. And between the dozens of full-fleshed articles and stories are numerous reviews, letters-to-the-editor, and cartoons by such classy inksters as Robert Crumb and S. Clay Wilson.

Edited by Howard Pearlstein, Richard A. Lupoff and upstart Fender Tucker, it contains about 90% of what was found in the original nine issues. It may be too big of a book for bedtime reading but leave a copy of THE ORGAN READER on your coffee table and your next party will be a guaranteed success -- especially if you leave your den bong next to it.

There will never be a book like this again. But if we try, maybe we can bring back the zeitgeist of 1971. Until then, go for the book. Bong not included, sorry. But if you ask -- and send $5 to one of the editors -- you can get a set of CDs with all of the 288 pages of THE ORGAN scanned in beautiful detail shipped to your door. < Less
