"An Impromptu Review of a wonderful book"
When I first met the author of The Towers of Adrala, I immediately classified him into that dreaded category from high school: nerd. Andrew Suzanne did not strike me as a person capable of creating a story that would send me into fits of emailing that usually had him saying “sorry, sorry, no, not telling, not telling, no, sorry…don’t kill me please” in the reply. In one school year, I learned that beneath the sleepy, vacant stare, there is a mind that goes beyond “nerd” and into “visionary.” For someone like me, who has spent the majority of their life worshiping the amazing, archetypal, groundbreaking, epic saga that is... More > Star Wars, The Towers of Adrala is more than just another fantasy tale. This simple story, set in a gargantuan world full of colossal obstacles and invincible enemies that are simultaneously unknown and yet in plain sight, fulfilled one of the few requirements I have for my personal list of great literature: reality.

For a fantasy novelist, this one simple yet essential task seems difficult. It seems that most of today’s novelist’s have forgotten the need for a realistic character, in an at least plausible situation. Andrew not only executes this requirement perfectly he creates a world and characters that go beyond realistic and plausible. His world and his characters make readers of all ages, professions, and creeds forget themselves. This may seem like a bad thing, but is not. They forget all of their personal problems and get drawn into Adrala. Andrew releases them from reality and places them in a dream that is more real than what they live in.

As Andrew’s friend, non-professional editor, and a more-than-avid-bordering-on-obsessive reader, I hold a slight bias. This bias, however, disappears for people I have reluctantly lent my beta edition copy of the book to. At least three of these people have vowed to never give the book back to me, a vow they have all broken. The other five people have asked me if this is a book or a screenplay. I have replied that while it reads as though it was written for the silver screen, this is a long way from being a movie. Andrew does not have the popularity of Christopher Paolini, yet.

My last remark is that anyone who has a love of Tolkien’s vast Middle Earth, King’s tales of human nature in extraordinary circumstances, Rowling’s creation of a hidden magic in an ordinary world, Lucas’ use of the archetypal hidden beneath a modern veil, and, of course, a well-written novel will not only love this book, but add it to their personal favorites list.
