"A wonderful collection of stories"
There is definitely a difference between good prose and bad prose. I am not able to give a definition of good prose...and at the same time I do not believe that the distinction is subjective.

Here is an example of what I consider good prose:

...The smell of the grass, of the hay, of the winds and the wet leaves in the dry trees, and the smell of the dirt. She closed her eyes and almost felt the breeze of a bird that flew overhead. The cold, drenched wings of a bird, flying to its nest.

The wind blew.

"Fly faster, fly harder," Mary said to herself.

That is truly beautiful. I loved that... More > passage. The Tie Rose...and Other Works is full of moments like this. They may be simple things like a description, She smiled, and the wrinkled, milky white hand that held his fell limp, or it could be in the dialog between characters. The way that the characters speak is very natural...and Adie Bishop does a great job of putting the characters into the lines they say.

There are a couple of stories that are romance by nature, and although I am not much of a fan of romantic literature, the stories are so well told that I couldn't help but feel emotionally involved in them.

I can honestly say, once you begin a story you are hooked. My favorites were: The Tie Rose, For I Have Sinned and How the Blind See.

Adie Bishop is a talented, capable writer...and The Tie Rose...and Other Works is good fiction.

I not only enjoyed this slim volume of short stories - I think I learned a thing or two about good writing.
