Who I am not is the girl moving rhythmically, posing in designer labels, along the runway. Neither am I the pretty face in a cosmetics advertisement on the pages of a glossy magazine. Flirtations with a camera, under the modelling lights of a glitzy photographer, really reveal nothing of me. So much more is made known in the words that spill onto the blank page in retrospective or introvert moments. The thoughts, aspirations and hopes that emerge in the lines of a poem speak far more than all those superficial things that have simply been a means of making a living. Observations of life, experiences and dreams, reveal the person behind the image. I dedicate this collection to Robert Staniford, a great artist and poet who has brought out the real me.
