The best recommendation I can give “Wings & Dreams: 4 Elements of a New Feminism” is to say that it manages to be intellectual and yet concurrently readable. Most feminist books are either one or the other; occasionally they are neither. “Wings & Dreams” discusses not only a global history of women’s rights both socially and politically, but also how new philosophies must be incorporated into our thinking as we shape the course of future feminism. As a baby boomer and a first wave feminist, I have read countless books on this subject. Some of them have been dry and academic; some were strident and emotional; most are repetitive and, frankly, lacking compassion. The style of the... More > essays contained in “Wings & Dreams,” however, encompasses none of these standard traits. The information is straightforward and thoughtful. The various points of view are different without being conflicting. Yes, it has a conclusion – that future feminism must include a partnership with men if it is to truly succeed both spiritually and socially. But the authors manage to convey this perspective without becoming preachy. And that is, I believe, what separates this book from past writings. I enjoyed it. By the way, so did my husband.

This is a book of essays by four different women, with different experiences and outlooks, presents views of where the feminist movement was, is and could be. The introductions put the idea of this collection of essays, which could stand on their own, into perspective, guiding the reader to the purpose of the editor and the publisher.

The format, presenting the essays in 2 languages following each other, may be confusing. While I understand the idea of the bilingual approach leading to challenging the nuances of language, my preference would be to have the entire book in one language, followed by the other. The feminist movement is the history of women, and some men, moving us off center to the full enjoyment of basic rights. It is an ongoing struggle, even today. While to some not on the front lines, the movement seems underground, or at the least stereotyped, these essays seek to point us in the direction of understanding the past in order to change the concept of the word “feminist” and the movement.

As a product of the turbulent "Ms." 1960’s, where we pushed the boundaries of those who came before us, these essays encourage us to continue to rely on our chosen path and support, with full understanding, those who choose a different or traditional path. We know feminism in its purist form (seeking equity) is not dead. It just isn’t valid to today’s young women. These essays attempt to change that.

Some essays by men in support of movements for basic rights would be a good addition to a next edition.

Well, can't say I'm objective, but when I first started to typeset this book, for my life partner, publisher of this book, I was unprepared for the clarity of the invitation, as a man, to join in resolving what a New Feminism can be. So, with that, enjoy the read, and consider that the German original creates an authentic context for this book.
