Title: Adirondack Hikes in Hamilton County-The Book
Author: Peter Klein
As an avid hiker myself, my bookshelf contains many hiking trail and guide books. Adirondack Hikes in Hamilton County is a unique addition in that it is more personal than technical, more descriptive than mundane. I always find that I am bored by the many maps, geological notes, etc included in many guide-books. Peter Klein takes readers on a hiking journey, describing the flora and fauna, the smells, the sounds, the sites and the feel of the area. He makes the trails real to the reader and definitely convinces the avid hiker or the everyday walker that visiting this area would be an excellent experience. The book lists several areas in Hamilton County-Rock Lake Trail, Blue Ledges, Whortleberry and Big Bad Luck Ponds. Each trail includes location, short history and a recommendation for the best time of year to visit. The book also contains some excellent tips and advice for readers before venturing into the woods, very informative for beginners. Hikers and walkers should pick up a copy of this book if visiting Hamilton County. Peter Klein is the author of both non fiction and fiction. He incorporates much of his flair for description into this book. Reviewer: Shirley Roe, Allbooks Review.

2007 May 03 Allbooks BOOK REVIEW
Genre: Fantasy / Erotica Title: The Dancing Valkyrie Author: Peter Klein Blood and sex. Of course love, but not the way humans think about it.
This is the recurring theme throughout The Dancing Valkyrie, a story about Mary Hoffman, librarian by day and exotic dancer by night. Mary, needing some time alone takes a hike along a secluded upstate New York trail. She is saved from two predatory young men by Beth, a beautiful woman slightly older than Mary. The two join together for the rest of the trail, becoming romantically involved along the way. Beth, it turns out is a vampire, and quickly introduces Mary to the mystical world she lives in. After inviting Mary back to her castle, built by her brother, Joseph, in a remote area, Mary is seduced into becoming a vampire as well. Joseph and Beth are hundreds of years old, and pose as brother/sister, but are husband and wife, or, in vampire terms, father and daughter. Thus begins the fascinating story of Mary’s transition from human woman to vampire.
This book is full of rich and incredibly descriptive prose that makes you feel you are in every scene. The dialog is both thought provoking and believable (or course we are talking about vampires), with an excellent mix of philosophical, religious and historical references mixed within the real time story. The plot is not complex, as the story is more of a journey than a twisty-turny, keep you in the dark project. It is more than adequate, however, as you quickly become submersed in the protagonist’s discovery process. Klein presents vampires in a light never seen before, and frankly one of the most inventive and most original depictions I’ve ever read.
This is an absolute must read if you are a vampire fan. It should be tempered with the fact that it is an erotic novel. However, the sex is an integral part of the novel’s framework and not only necessary, but adds to the overall richness of the work. A pleasant surprise on the last page was: “TO BE CONTINUED.” Highly recommended. Reviewer: Gregg J. Haugland, Allbooks Reviews. 2007 Apr 01 With the recent list price changes for books in distribution and with an eye to providing those books at a price lower than can be had here or at Amazon, I have decided to make both The Dancing Valkyrie and Adirondack Hikes in Hamilton County available on a CD. This move will provide a much lower price. In the case of Adirondack Hikes in Hamilton County, a special bonus for hikers will be the convenience of printing from the CD only the hike you intend to take. No lost hiking book. No pages being damaged by the weather.
2006 Jul 23 One thing I have learned at some recent book signings and public readings of my vampire book, The Dancing Valkyrie, is how the vampire subject is often the favorite of many people you would never guess to like vampire stories. More on this soon. [http://example.com|]
2006 Jul 11 __From a personal point of view, I like living in the Adirondacks. From a writer's point of view, especially one who rejects any consideration of what may offend someone somewhere, there are times when I wish I were back living in the New York of the 60's. Having recently published two very different books has crystallized these two different feelings. I can easily go out and get my hiking book, "Adirondack Hikes in Hamilton County," into local book stores and other retail outlets. But with my vampire novel, "The Dancing Valkyrie," the opposite is true - and this in spite of the fact that much of the action in the novel takes place here in the Adirondacks. I know that if I were living in New York, the success of "The Dancing Valkyrie" would climb while the success of "Adirondack Hikes in Hamilton County" would decline. Also, living in New York would provide many more outlets to sell the books. But I like living where I am so I struggle forward, hoping for a little witchcraft magic to help "The Dancing Valkyrie" to find its market. The book is not for everyone. It is not for those who wouldn't read a vampire novel if it were given to them. It is not for those who "become offended" by explicit sex (mostly lesbian), a plethora of four-letter words and some graphic violence. Yet behind of all these potentially offensive things and what makes, I believe, these offensive things necessary, is the primary idea I had when writing the book. What might vampires really be like if they were to exist and if they were created by God. Perhaps that is the most offensive thing some will find in the book - and it is there I do mean to offend.__
2006 Jul 02 Well, here we are. The Fourth of July is almost here. The Spirit of 76. Give me liberty of give me death. But do we still feel that way? Did the spirit of freedom die on 911 when "everything changed"? Maybe I am just getting old. I turn 64 this year. Do I have a faulty memory. But it does seem to me the average American has less freedom today than was had back in the 40's, 50's and 60's when I was much younger than I am today. What seems really odd to me is how leaders in our government seem to want us to believe this is a very dangerous world and we might need to give up some of our freedoms and privacy in order to be protected. This seems odd because the threat today is far less than what it was during the Cold War. In my mind, the so called War on Terrorism just cannot compete with WW II and the Cold War. You can't blame this odd state of affairs just on Bush or the Republican Party. When it comes to taking away our freedoms, the Democrats are busy taking away one half of our freedoms while the Republicans work hard to take away the other half. I guess you could call that a real bi-partisan effort to take away all our freedoms. Have a happy and free Fourth. Maybe exercise your freedom by breaking a few laws like set off some firecrackers, smoke a cigarette where you are not allowed - or - in the name of shameless self promotion - read my book, The Dancing Valkyrie, which has a lot of sex, violence and four-letter words.
