Roger Hagan

Art photography, both black and white and color.

"Mexico 1953" is made from negatives shot in Mexico fifty years ago. The second book is about how the pictures came to be made, subtitled "The Roadtrip." It is made from uncorrected proof scans, like that at left, of all the negatives, with extensive annotation.

"Personal West" consists of color photographs paired to suggest the intersection of human and geologic time. "In My Dream" and "In My Life" are favorite black-and-white and color photographs from six decades.

In the blog are notes intended to help other photographers hoping to have photo books printed on Lulu. My Lulu Blog. Previews of several pages of each book are available on each book's description page.

All photographs are also available as archival prints: inquire at rogerhagan@earthlink.net.

To see a longer preview of "Mexico 1953: A Book of Photographs" look at www.M53.blogspot.com. The Roadtrip book is gradually being shown complete, every picture and caption, at www.rogerhagan.blogspot.com. To view in order, start at the bottom of the oldest archive and work up and forward in time.

Mexico 1953 A book of photographs
In 1953 the author at 19 set out with his camera for an adventure in Mexico. It was a beautiful and mysterious place for Hagan and his traveling companion. A deep past intruded into the hopeful present at every turn. From the hundreds of negatives he made then, a memorable portrait of a nation just a generation out of its revolution has now been assembled, honoring a people awaiting the realization of their ideals and dreams. 160 photographs, black and white, organized in six portfolios; 220 pages, with captions and a preface. (The story of the roadtrip is told in another book of photographs and text, "Mexico 1953: The Roadtrip" available here.)
