Roo is a 25 year old artist living in Raleigh, NC. An alumnus of North Carolina State University, he believes that his city will one day open up and become a major site of artistic energy and activity. Roo is the author of many works, including approximately 300 poems and songs. He already has an impressive list of accomplishments for his age.
While still attending college he began teaching a peer health educational improvisational theater class at the university. By the age 21 he was sitting on the Wake Co. HIV Task Force as the only undergraduate member. He has successfully created two university wide health education marketing campaigns, and still volunteers as a health educator and marketer at the university as well as guest lecturing on several health topics in the community. Recently, Roo has started a fellowship with Public Allies (www.publicallies.net). As an Americorps member, he is serving his fellowship out at the Alliance of AIDs Services - Carolina. He is helping those below the federal poverty level living with HIV and AIDs as a Client Advocate in Durham, NC.
As an artist he has recorded a demo CD of spoken word poetry and songs. "While You're Gone" is a track that has gained some air time at certain Raleigh venues. He has performed at the local Take Back the Night rally, STAMMER! art series, durham3 art series, Durham Culture Crawl and Legend's Night Club with the Triangle Kings. Roo was the opening act for national recording artist Randi Driscoll's NC State University concert. He continues to be a featured performer at local and regional events. He also created "Warble and Rant," a one time open mic night for local artists to share their work in a supportive environment. His demo CD has also taken on this title. In addition, Roo was one of the first literary contributors to www.soulparking.com. SoulParking is a website dedicated to art and all of its forms.
