Almost Half of My Wit
This collection of poems might make you laugh and might make you think. If it makes you think a whole lot more than it makes you laugh, then one of us has a problem. Since I already know that I have a problem, you can feel pretty good about yourself, but you might want to read these verses again just to make sure that you didn’t read something in that really isn’t there. I make no apologies for the goofiness, silliness, and corniness in this book of poems. As stated above, any refinement or underlying significance that you find is totally unintended. Critical life-changing decisions made after reading this book should be carefully re-considered after a period of seven days or more in which you have not thought about any of the poems in this book. I hope you get my point. I feel that I’ve explained my perspective pretty well, and I don’t plan on worrying about it anymore. sole sake of making someone else laugh.

The First English Poems Written in the Western Hemisphere
The adventures of a 16th century poet who travels to the New World in 1588. The story covers his departure from his ship while still several miles offshore and his meeting and integration into a tribe of native Americans who aid him in transferring abandoned English settlers from Virginia to New Spain, gaining the adventurer a ticket back to Old Spain in triumph as a hero. The story is presented as a collection of poems puportedly written by the 16th entury English poet M. A. Sempine with spurious scholarly annotations by Sir Edmund Dredsky, a fictitious 20th century archaeologist, with further anotations and editorial commentary by the author. The entire document is full of nonsense, just for fun, and suitable for all ages, especially those who have taken English literature in college in the last three hundred years or so. by Mac Wilkey

Planning to New Approach to Novel

Mac Wilkey in Mac Wilkey's Blog
Thursday 14 of April, 2005
Due primarily to the 'less than excellent' approach to M. A. Scoundrel - A Lovalble Scoundrel and some well-intended but project torpedoing reviews, I have deleted the book and abandoned the project from the OLD DOCUMENT perspective.

I still like may plot and belieeve there may be 3 or 4 novels in those first 4 chapters I poste prematurely. Cast of characters will have their names changed for sure and I'm thinking of a Pen Name if I go though a legitimate agency rather than Lulu.

I've got three chapters that look pretty good--Need an outline of the rest and a synopsis of the whole story.

Plan on submitting to Ethan Ellenbert first in a few weeks if I can get everything together for the submittal

Wish me luck

M. A. Sempine book up to 100+ pages

Mac Wilkey in Mac Wilkey's Blog
Wednesday 06 of April, 2005
Actually published the poems with footnotes at The First English Poems Written in the Western Hemisphere.

Currently, it's also the last third of the book titled M. A. Sempine - A Lovable Scoundrel which adds diary and diary entries from the senior and junior earls of Hubbard as well as Miguel Batista's journal entries in Madrid before the two nemeses set sail for the new world.

The footnoted poems cover the New World adventures, but the footnotes are to be replaced by additional Batista journal entries to provide a more complete and satisfying narrative for that period.

Since it doesn't cost but a few cents more, the poems with footnotes will go into an appendix--Just For Fun.

I still have to edit/proof etc what I've 'published' but I like the idea of having a preview for anyone to read that can get on the internet.

Anybody want to post?

First Submission Sent to Mature Years

Mac Wilkey in Mac Wilkey's Blog
Tuesday 22 of March, 2005
I've prepared a poem "A Giant That's Mean Is a Very Bad Thinkng" and a puzzle to mail to Club Connection.

Since Mature Years prefers electronic submissions, I sent them one of my best poems "Life Is Just About Time; It's All About Time" which just happens to include a verse about grandchildren. We'll see what happens. I had to reformat it to 16 lines (i.e. 5 3-line verses) each of which is less than 60 characters.

I had thought about submitting the same poem to the Baptist 'Maturing' magazine but their limit is 12 lines and they don't accept electronic submissions (although they may later request the electronic version).

I'm also starting a series of 'faux poems with footnotes' starring my old character M. A. Sempine. This version of M. A. Sempine is a 16th century poet and adventurer who roams around Europe and the New World causing trouble and barely escaping justice.

Some of the early poems are posted at Poetry Corner and a few of the first 'longer' texts will be posted at Writer's Word until I get publishing started. I plan to keep updating the preview to M. A. Sempine - A Loveable Scoundrel until I get enough content to really consider publishing.

Mixed reception--some really like it, but not too many diffferent folks have commented.

Steve Obrien's Suggested TimeLine

Mac Wilkey in Coming Soon . . .
Wednesday 05 of January, 2005
Steve's post in the support forum suggested that I expect a 2 to 3 week delay before I begin seeing my book picked up by any of the book stores.

That would be Jan 19 to Jan 26 timeframe

Chronology

Just wanted to note that Liz at lulu.com reported that there had been a glitch in my ISBN Plus handling.

She stated that they were sending me a refund which is rather nice. I really wouldn't be due a refund if, in factg, everything is straightened out.

However, if I need to resubmit ISBN Plus then I guess it would be appropriate.

I'll update this BLOG later.
