House Of Shinyribs est 1967

Abraham Lincoln's Birthday
This song started life as Cracker Israel. How about a musical melting together of Halloween, VJ Day and Abe Lincoln's birthday. The ultimate in holiday jigs. The descriptive prowess of this Shinyribs is a wonder unto itself along the lines of the astrodome and the great pyramids.

  Cracker Israel
This song eventually became, "Abe Lincoln's Birthday." Listen to them back to back for a rare glimpse at how the writer works his magic. The first in a series of stream of concho's recordings done while driving or grocery shopping or other mundane tasks. I often carry a voice recorder around and record anything that might strike my fancy. This is how many of my songs have started. Here is a taste of what that sounds like when I make shit up. This will more than likely become a full song at some point. Though it is already 2 minutes long here, so I do not have much more work to do on it.

Holy Roller
Touch of the old time gospel here on this sunday evening. I was really feeling it on this one. I love it. It really has that beautiful bouncing church groove to it. Cool organ and electric guitar too.

  How Will U Shine
In the course of human events, dark energy emerges like a spiritual crab grass on the lawn of one's soul. In my experience it helps to have a good woman who loves you and is loyal to you no matter what. This is what marriage is about; faith and courage and honesty. A man must learn sometimes, again sometimes how to say things that he knows and feels and wants. It is important to understand this.

Moon Gone Down
My return to real drumming with a romantic vengence. Acoustic guitar and Mandolin weave around eachother all the while under my particularly beguiling spell. The song is a slice of south austin in the winter. Sittin on the porch in blue light, smokin out in the cold crisp night, watching the moon go down and all the night sounds around. If cats was angels and angels was cats I'd sit a while longer to hear a song like that.Kraka

  East Texas Rust (Shake Y'bones)
Riff-A-Matic brought in to give blood to this little snake of a number I found in the pine needles smuggled from the Thicket. I think there is a little T-Heads in this one. Pretty cool tune. It sure is fun to sing and pay that riff.

Weaponized Virus Musket
This one kinda reminds me of WAR. I am not suggesting it is anywhere as cool as any song by them. But, in my own little world of pretend I can imagine that it is like WAR. Keith Langford, the great one, plays drums on this. Dusty Slosinger laid down the bass tones. This is a kind of Davy Crockett in the 21st Century thang.

  Faith
This is a rare socio-political song I writ a few weeks ago. Things is bad and gettin' worse. Disenchanted you might say, yes, I am. I worry about the future of my children and their children. When they call for the death of the pope because he expressed criticism of a religious text then we are headed down a dead end road.

When The Bars Close
I know some folks who go out and dance and drink and listen to the loudest friggin' thumpin' hip hop trip acid freak funk in town. And,they don't really like it. But they feel like they gotta go do that because everyone else is doing it and they wanna have "fun." The real fun they find late at night when they get in their cars half drunk with ringing ears and drive out into the hills.
Download: $2.00

  Ain't Nuthin' But A Party
This is a solid little good time party number that I penned for the Wyldwood concert I played this past labor day weekend. The dancin' in the back yard line is funny. But, I think the spruce goose line is the best.

Hey hey, just started the new crop of songs this week. The first is Governor's Assassin, which was one of the first songs I recorded over at Ramsay's house on Richmond, we called Richmond Ditch, because of the dry creek that ran behind it. Finally got this one out there. I love this tune cuz it is kinda spooky and kinda ghost history, yes? I stay up too late doing this mix, its maybe a bit heavy on the low end, but as I say, you will get used to it. I am not a fidelity freak, or maybe I am....this is always too much to think about. Mixing and EQ-ing is like chasing a hyper dog around the park or a cat with a bird in its mouth. At some point you just gotta give up and let nature take its course.

Working on the old inventory a bit. I will put some of them back up soon.

Also gonna mess with pricing and availability some, as a free market experiment. There is no longer any government regulation in this business, but I am gonna keep it fair for the consumer.

Well I gots to ge through this week and then I can sit down and mix some more tunes up in my Palmetto house. I really need to pull that carpet out of there. Nasty goin's on in them fibers. I was sitting on the floor in there yesterday working on my Requinto. I felt itchy things on my back and neck. I thought it might be some microscopic freaky bug thing. I scratched it. Sometimes the skin just itches for no good reason. It's funny that way, the skin. Keep coming back over here and looking for it.

Hey great thanks to all who have been downloading songs from this site. It is a thrill for me to be able to do this. This is a cool site if you have not looked around. It was set up for books and then expanded into music. But we gots to keep the internet free and open. As the central control grid loses more and more of their grip on all of us they will invent ways and means to try and control this theater. As TV news and corporate radio dies, the promise of a true free market arrives.
