"Read this book, you won't regret it!" A fascinating autobiography of someone who has been there, done it and survived to tell the tale. It’s a compelling read whether you are familiar with the drug scene or not. It takes you on a geographical and psychological journey to see another side of America, the world of drop-outs, dreamers, drug dealers, drug addicts and other characters whose lives come to life on these pages. Most of the time people pass them without a second glance: all of a sudden, their lives and deaths become important and take center stage in this book. The most striking thing about the book is its honesty. It really tells the story as it happened. Although the author was on the wrong side of the law many times, the reader sympathizes with him because he kept his humanity and compassion to others through all the trials and tribulations. He walked around with open eyes and made sharp observations about the world around him and now he tells us exactly what he... More > saw. The story really flows, the characters are described so well that we feel we could recognise them on the streets of LA and San Francisco. There are moments when the enormity of what a person has to go through just takes our breath away. We sympathize with him, worry about him and follow him through an amazing ride, often wondering about the cruelty and indifference of institutions and people whose job is to look after vulnerable people. The book has certainly changed the way I look at the numerous homeless drug addicts and dealers in our streets. We all make bad choices in life, some of these bad decisions may just take us a bit further down than others-but, as the book shows us, no matter how hopeless life can seem, there is always a way out if we really mean to mend our ways.< Less
