Memoir of Aaron S. Green, MD.
Edited by Judith Beckman.
This fascinating memoir, written a year before his death in 1941, follows Aaron Green from humble beginnings in Goldingen, Kurland (present day Kuldiga, Latvia) to a life of prominence in San Francisco, California. His story includes a particularly interesting look at medical education pre-WWI and a rare, first-hand account of learning cataract surgical technique from the colorful Colonel Henry Smith in Amritsar, India. Aaron Green's is a story of worldwide travel, curiosity, determination, and devotion to his brother Louis, with whom he partnered in medical practice and in so many other ways.
