A Novel - It is 1984 and the Canadian Forces are involved in what will become one of the most difficult and complex searches ever carried out in British Columbia. The search for a missing Cessna 310 is hampered by all sorts of factors: mountainous terrain, bad weather, no emergency transmitter signal, search aircraft unserviceabilities, SAR techs being arrested, interference from relatives of the missing passengers, psychics and the difficult task of trying to piece together all the information available to locate the missing aircraft. The search is further complicated by the searchmaster's own personal problems, which affect how he deals with his search crews, the members of his deployed headquarters team, the relatives and the search itself. What does this search mean to him on the eve of his retirement and how committed is he to finding the missing aircraft?

This book will appeal to pilots and those readers with aviation or armed forces experience. After the first few chapters, the reading becomes compulsory. The author's attention to detail is consistent all through the book and the reader should expect to progress at a slower pace because of this detail. The characters while not perfect are very likable and more important completely real. I was initially worried as I read the last few chapters that the plot would not be completely resolved. But then in a remarkably simple plot twist everything came together for a highly satisfying conclusion. All in all, it is a must read.
