this is a collection of pictures and memories of the Finnish immigrants who settled in the early 1900's in a neighborhood of Norwood Massachusetts called Swedeville, named for the original builder/ owners. it depicts in loving detail how these Finns created community with a Hall that supported Scandinavian dances as well as recitals, weddings , plays, funerals and basketball for teens and adults. There was a sauna house for family bathing, a general store, a home where people could use the huge basement loom to weave their "rag rugs", and a picnic grounds for sporting games. the national character of the Finns is known as SISU, which has guts, courage, strength, ferocity of purpose, and perseverance among its attributes. is well described in stories of long-ago days. the chapter on the difficult Finnish language is full of laughable, unbelievably complex words.
