A fusion of man and machine in the compelling tale of a unique existence that advances beyond the vastness of earthly law. Blake is a scientist who is obsessed with the idea of inventing a robot that can think for itself. He finds a way of using plant cells to store data for the synthetic brain but gets quite a lot more than he bargains for. It would seem that such a thing cannot exist without a soul.

"Great little story" At just under thirty thousand words, it's quite a short novel, but it was just as long as it needed to be. The style immediately struck me as unusual, but as I got further into the story, I discovered everything about it was unusual. I liked it. It's a warm and oddly comforting tale. Here are a few bits of it: "All my inventions start and end here and in between I go a little crazy, but hey, who doesn't sometimes in the confines of their own seclusion." He left and returned with the ridiculous looking robot. "What the hell's that," was the voice of Gerry that grew gruffer by the minute, "it looks like a giant vacuum cleaner. Wait, let me guess, R2-D2. That's it; R2-D2, we're at a Star Wars convention." He turned to Susan and gave a leer that was almost repulsive in its openness. "And this gorgeous bit of 'totty' is Princess Lea." A lone tree gave gracious shade to their scoffing, and a boy held his meat... More > enthusiastically, chewing with acute anticipation of the next tasty morsel. "Flutter by butterfly," she said, "flutter by." If you like the preview, I think you'll enjoy reading the whole novel. I did.< Less

"Superlative" "Thought I would order the book as I love reading the work of unknown authors". When I opened the strange but intriguing cover, a dose of strong smelling salts could not have prepared me for the genius that lay ahead. Although a little biased perhaps in my review, as I love science fiction and especially when they have robots in them, I could not put the book down. I think anyone who enjoys a good fantasy book will certainly enjoy this. The author is obviously a talented man and a true wordsmith! my synopsis - A cleverly worded and intriguing piece of humble story-telling pie, which when digested makes you feel satisfied, emotional, and warm inside. "can't wait for another slice!"
