""The Far Land" by Alan Hemus" This book is a throwback to the time when children's books were full of new adventures for the characters, with the inherent dangers that made you keep turning the pages. With its mix of history (American Civil War) and the tribulations of a young boy living in those dangerous times, it reads like the "Famous Five" with attitude! I would recommend it as a present for children from 8-12 years old.

"The Far Land by Alan Hemus" I really enjoyed this book its descriptive narrative transported me to the locations both in Scotland ;and the Bahamas. I wanted to follow Peter's adventures and could visualise it turned into a swash buckling PG movie with the cat staying around for a littel longer to bring about more comedy. I loved the characters and see a follow up to find out what happens to Peter next! The front artwork might attract younger readers if a busy scene of Peter running through jungle with the cat or swinging for a mast - that might capture the readers eye more and make them hungry for a good read. Overall GREAT!
