This is a story in which Alan John Andrews takes you through his up-bringing in Derbyshire after he and his family were evacuated from the Blitz in London to the relative peace of Darley Dale. He recounts his sporting achievements, his friendships and school life at Churchtown and Ernest Baileys Grammar schools. Into adulthood he tells of his jobs, travels and Army Band life at the Royal Military School of Music and in the Far East. In married life he had a succession of jobs in various locations, before settling into his role of a Mobile Newsagent with his own Dance Band. Throughout the book, swimming is a strong theme, he and his wife became heavily involved in swimming teaching. They began a new era of their lives which involved overseas travel and caravan trips. This led to trips around the world visiting the sights, relations and friends. If you enjoy reading about travelling, swimming, music and how life was for this man and his family over a sixty year span, then this is the book for you.
