A great read for anyone interested, not just in Aikido or martial arts, but also the cultural and social aspects of life in Japan as well as other countries over the last four decades. Using the personal notes of Cottier Sensei, and the experiences of his students and friends, the author Alan Ruddock presents vignettes of what is was like to be a student of the Founder of Aikido as well as other globally renowned Aikido Sensei. Throughout the book the reader is presented with Cottier Sensei's particular brand of humour [at times I found myself laughing out loud]. This book sits proudly alongside Ruddock Sensei's previous book 'Aikido Memoirs: One Irishman's Lifetime Search for the Answer to the Mystery of Morihei Ueshiba's Aikido'.
