Hello Alan I much enjoyed your novel ‘Buying The Programme.’ A very believable story with some strong characters especially: Ron, Naomi, Maureen, and Maureen’s mam. I especially enjoyed the early part of the story and the insight into English / Yorkshire family life in the 1940s, I could relate to much of this. I gained a real insight into Army life; the comradeship between the lads, the hierarchy and the way in which the classes were treated; I learnt a good deal about it that previously I was unaware of, especially the humour. Strong language was inoffensive as it came across as an accurate portrayal of real soldiers and their way of talking. The novel came across as ‘Straight from the horse’s Mouth’ it also gave an insight into life in Malaya, Germany, Aden, Borneo and Ulster. Ron’s strong determination moves the plot on and held my interest and hope for a better outcome for him until the end of the novel. I look forward to part two of the trilogy. All you need now is’ word of... More > mouth’ and more outlets for you to sell more copies. Bets wishes Maureen Sutton REVIEW< Less

I really enjoyed reading "buying the programme " I felt quite sorry for Ron Jessop who made the easy mistakes of the young, but even though he was young he still tried to do the right thing and when he finally did find real love it was unfair that he felt he couldn't do it in a "proper" way. All the places in the story are described in such a way that you transported there no mater whether they are near or far. The story well for a story where may years pass but is no lulls in the plot. I would recommend this book to anyone who's loves a story to take them away (at least for a little while)from real world and its problems. I am dying to see what happens next to Ron Jessop so eagerly aw ait the next book in the series.

I really enjoyed this book. The main character Ron initially seems to be naïve by not realising the consequences of his actions, both in his early love life and his 'fiddles at work', but it is clear that he is doing it all for his Mum. After a series of setbacks Ron's kind nature and love of people shines through, and can be seen by his support of the new recruits, which build to firm friendships, and his true love of Maureen. The descriptions, especially of South East Asia, allow you to believe you are there. The action/story moves at a rapid pace. I would recommend this book to everyone.
