When 16-year old Martina Fiasconi unwittingly crosses the threshold of taboo she ignites a slow burning obsession that flares out of control; for even in the bohemian atmosphere of the Fiasconi household, where the lines of convention were so often blurred, the exotically beautiful Martina could not have imagined her father, Dr. Martino Fiasconi, an eminent university professor, would become the person she feared the most. Set in 1975 in the fictional New England town of Millborough, Unintended Consequences is a psychological drama that explores the complex and unconventional relationship between a daughter with a naive sense of duty and her widower father whose obsession turns to madness when she falls in love with another man.

Aug 29, 2013Impressive realistic and imaginative writing style, and character development. Multi-faceted themes, Particularly appreciate author's treatment of Native American shamanism, as well as dispelling negative myths about the biker community. There appears to be a bit of Steinbeck in this author's novels, which appeals to me. The themes, too numerous for this review, could be further developed into a screen play. Lifetime Channel flicks come to mind. This novel truly offers enjoyment for all readers. Can't wait to read Ms. Mason's newest book
Jun 29, 2013Unintended Consequences by Alberta L. Mason is a romance, mystery and crime novel all rolled up into one. Martina is a beautiful young girl that married Rod, a handsome, slightly older man, without her father's knowledge or consent. She fears what her father's reaction will be to the marriage. Since the death of her mother, her father has become possessive of her, and her affections, and does not want her to share them with anyone other than himself. When her father learns she is married, and pregnant, he attempts to force her to have an abortion. Terrified he wants to harm her and her baby, she flees across country, only to learn that her father has shot her husband and she has been told by the police that her husband is dead. Alone, terrified and guilt-ridden, she stays with her only family, her aunt and uncle. Even though he is in jail, Martina is afraid her father will try to find her. She changes her name, and after her baby is born, she moves into her own apartment. Two years... More > have passed, and after extensive counseling, she is showing signs of progress and more self-confidence. That is, until a private detective shows up at her door one day, knowing her true identity. Ms. Mason does an excellent job of developing her characters and weaving a web of mystery that makes you want to keep reading. Although there are difficult issues dealt with in this bood, Ms. Mason does an excellent job writing about them. It takes a masterful author to write about matters that are not socially acceptable, write about them in a tactful and tasteful manner, and in such a way that you don't want to put the book down. Ms. Mason is truly a gifted author and I look forward to her next book. S.K. Harris< Less
