"First Aid for alcohol and drug problems?" This is an interesting and informative study which has a potential beyond its immediate geographical setting. It is refreshing to find the subject being treated in such a common sense way and, while it may not always stand up to the rigours of a scientific methodology, the work does serve to focus on very relevant elements and is an intelligent, comprehensive and interesting document. The conclusion of the study is, arguably, its most defining feature and is worthy of very serious consideration. Some refinements to the idea could perhaps be made, bearing in mind that alcohol and drug abuse are often symptomatic of underlying problems of the individual, but the innovative concept of adopting something akin to a first aid approach to issues which increasingly pervade our society is highly commendable. I sincerely hope this study gets the follow-up it deserves and that the authors' "vision" outlined in their conclusion... More > becomes a reality.< Less
