The Island

ByAlexander Malina

The Island is a spiritual journey of a young man and woman in a world of uncertainty. The text covers the scorching quest of one man for meaning in the modern world, through the spiritual path of ascetics. The journey of the young woman is that of self-discovery and the spiritual connection through body and soul. The novel is a philosophical work, written when the author was eighteen years old and camping without running water or electricity in the mountainous region of upstate New York, near the great Sacandaga River. While writing the work the author was deeply attracted to the works of Herman Hesse, Sri Chimnoy, the ancient Hindu texts known as the Vedas, and by the teachings of Buddhism. The Island is a love story about two lost souls within an uncertain world.
