A beautiful, unique retelling of the Bible in the epic verse form, one of the finest yet sadly diminishing forms of literature. Using the elegant Old English tones of yesteryear, 'Song of the One' takes us throughout the stories of the Bible, centering on the life of the Saviour, and finally culminating with the dramatic events of the Revelation. That finale was very impressive, especially as it is not easy to recreate the apocalypse, what with all its otherworldly and, at times, even frightening imagery. Additionally, this is not merely a retelling, it also challenges readers to think, seeing as it engages the use of epithets in identifying the Bible characters. Abraham, for instance, is named Pilgrim; Joseph is Favourite Son; David is Beloved. 'Song of the One' presents the Bible in a whole new light, while remaining faithful to the Scriptures. For more of the author's fine usage of the lost art of Epic Verse, read 'The Stars Bow Down,' a retelling of the life of Joseph the dreamer.
