A young man with his life in front of him, Alfred Seiler found his horizons shrinking instead of expanding. His home and books and fine times with friends are steadily taken away until all that remains is the chance of surviving, one day at a time. The reader begins to lose hope as door after door closes to Alfred and his family. But, in the end, they do survive and you realize that this is not something small, minimal, the least little thing. It is everything. A chilling and yet heartwarming story.

A stunning account of a courageous young man confronted with the Nazi horror. Incredibly, he escapes, with his entire family, to Moscow, only to be imprisoned as "German spies." Through the ordeal, Alfred Seiler asks not, "where was God?" but "where was man?"
