Brown's Bulletin

ByAlgie D. Brown

The Brown's Bulletin was a family newsletter produced in Shreveport, Louisiana, from 1952 to 1973. Its purpose was to keep the far-flung members of the Jack and Lodie Brown family connected, even though they were scattered across the globe. Here are the daily comings and goings, experiences, and the triumphs and tragedies of loved ones in a southern family from rural Arkansas that had started out just one small step up the social ladder from sharecroppers. From the perspective of a historian or sociologist, this non-fiction account describes in detail the attitudes and lifestyle of American middle-class families from the end of the Korean War through the Cold War Era to the end of the Vietnam War. Personal anecdotes, interviews, and photographs reaching back to 1876 are also included to provide a background for the slice of life preserved in the Brown’s Bulletin.
