An interesting account of the author's early years. What makes this book particularly attractive is the exceptionally detailed description provided by the writer who seems to have been, even as a young child, acutely aware of his surroundings (in Belgium during and right after WWII, in Upper Egypt and in, most of all in his beloved city of Port Said in the mid 1950s). This alone makes the book worth reading - even for readers who have no connection to either Egypt or Belgium. For anyone who has lived in Egypt, and especially for those who knew the pre-1956 Port Said, this book is guaranteed to bring back fond memories of a more peaceful era.

A fantastic book that takes the reader back in time to a facsinating Egypt. This autobiography is not only about Ali El-Kady, the man, but also about the soci-economic situation of Egypt in the 50s and 60s. It is a window of memories for all those who have lived in Egypt during that time. A first hand account of Port Said and Liege, Belgium in the style of the "Yakubian Building". A window that shows us what Egypt once was. More importantly, a very well written book about a man who knew no limits, but life itself.
