Lyman Carlton Fillingame, known as "Fil" by his air crew, was born on August 31, 1922, in Purvis, MS. He moved to Hattiesburg, MS when he was 6 years old and lived there until he moved back to Purvis in 1973.
He married Mary Alice Harrington in 1946 and they had 5 children. Lyman worked for the United States Postal Service for 39 years, and retired in 1980. He joined the Air Force Reserve after the war and served until he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
These memoirs include his childhood, his training and service in the Air Force, and his life afterwards, with an emphasis on the World War II years.
