Sep 15, 2015I have had the pleasure of writing to Allan Brooks for the last 2 years through a church pen-pal program. Since our very first correspondence he has been up-front and truthful about why he is imprisoned. After reading his book, Karmakaze, I was disturbed by the struggles he encountered at a young age, the wonderful opportunities he squandered in life, and the horrific pain he inflicted on those who cared about him. But Allan takes full responsibility for his actions and is paying the consequences. The wonder of his story is how the transforming power of Christ is changing his life every day. As we continue to write one another,I can sense God working in his life continuously and he is definitely not the same broken man who entered prison. Allan shares his story of God's amazing and unconditional love with others, in the hope that they also will find the peace that surpasses all understanding. This gripping book is only the beginning of Allan's story; God is not finished with him yet!
Oct 1, 2014This book is truly a 5 star read. Based on a true story it shows what happened to a man when his life spiraled out of control. A truly brilliant man was sucked into the world of drugs, sex, and every bad thing that happens when you lead a destructive life. If you live in the Nashville area you will recognize a lot of the places he references in the book. The book will definitely hold your interest to the end. This would make an excellent movie.
Sep 6, 2013Recently it was my privilege to visit with Allan Brooks. He is an example that people can change. He would welcome comments from those who have read the book. His address is: Allan Brooks 136706, RMSI 6-B, 7475 Cockrill Bend Blvd., Nashville, TN 37209....Allen Brooks reveals in this novel the four phases of his life, each of which holds its own unique challenging events and all of which held the attention of this reader. During his first twelve years of childhood, he experienced the divorce of his parents and the death of his father. This was followed by seven years of relatively stable circumstances while attending a private military school. The next twenty years were filled with some success, including a college degree, but for the most part it was a life of uncontrolled dissipation. This illustrates how an undisciplined environment can overwhelm us if we are not cognizant of its devastating results. For the last twenty-one years he has been incarcerated. During this period, Allan... More > has felt the reality that actions have consequences. It has been a period of self evaluation and discoveries that are filled with regret. It seems that most human beings have an innate desire to correct mistakes and seek redemption. This has been true with Allan. His penitent spirit as a result of an on-going development of a spiritual relationship provides an inner peace although he remains regretful every day for the pain and grief he has caused. It provides, to readers of his story, a hope when life’s challenges overwhelm us. I strongly recommend the reading of this book. Allen’s story holds great value for all of us.< Less
Jan 14, 2013This is a great read. I proofread this book 4 times and could not put it downeach time.I think of Allan as a friend and hope he is doing well.
Oct 31, 2012I give this book 5 stars. This is one of the most gripping and emotional books I have read in a long time. It's a journey of a man with demons to battle to finally find the good within himself and redemption for the many dark moments of his life. We all have them but in an instance he went to far. It is about his healing and hope for forgiveness. Just by his words you can see the heartfelt sorrow of all the wrongs in his life. He doesn't get a second chance to do it all over again. Neither does his victim. Ultimately he hasn't experienced any real happiness in his life. By turning down the wrong fork in the road and with the wrong kind of women he gave away any chance he could have had. He takes all of the blame himself which is commendable. Most people in his situation don't have the remorse that he does because they are not saved as Christians. People just don't realize how easily Christ can heal the hearts of the good and the bad. Mr. Brooks has come a long way and he should be... More > proud of himself for knowing he did wrong and truly accepting the punishment that was bestowed upon him because of that fateful night.< Less
