This story follows a young woman's life journey from conception into her sixties. It is a story of fear, shame, hope, and redemption. Anyone who has encountered addiction and/or mental illness in their lives, either themselves or others around them, may be able to relate. This book is also for all who get discouraged by what is dealt to them as they search for meaning in their lives. The story is of a Midwestern girl born in the 1950's. The negative behavior demonstrated to her by her parents were etched upon her impressionable mind. She had no self-esteem and struggled as an adult to glean validation for herself whenever possible. As an adult, she blindly felt her way through the labyrinth of her life, with no sense of direction, purpose, and certainly no moral compass. She fell victim to her own knee-jerk reactions and ran into road-blocks constantly. She often had to re-route her derailed life in trying to regain her balance and momentum. Hers was a destiny of detours.

Jun 10, 2018This fictionalized account of a woman living with a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder, describes her emotional suffering very well. Analise is characterized by her poor self-concept, low self-esteem, acute sensitivity, and emotional dysregulation. She illustrates her desperate struggle for validation from others, and the impact of that struggle for developing and maintaining relationships. Analise' story shows how her alcohol and drug addiction complicates her recovery. The difficulty of changing her perceptions and developing more adaptive behaviors are especially well described by the author. Analise confirms that treatment for BPD is available, but that it requires persistent focus and attention. I would recommend Amy’s book for anyone wanting insight into their relationship with a person diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. Well Done!
Jan 17, 2018I found "Destiny of Detours" to be similar to a spellbinding novel that is hard to put down. Unfortunately it was not fiction and this is the life story of a lady who grew up with dysfunctional parents which played a heavy role in the alcoholism and borderline personality disorder she was to develop as she grew toward adulthood and has had to deal with since. She is a very bright lady who has forged through and figured how to cope with the cards she had dealt to her. Through proper therapy and a 12 step program she has gained much knowledge on her afflictions and is very qualified to write on such subjects. My feeling is that everyone could benefit from reading this as I am convinced that all families have a connection to similar problems whether through family or friends. If one thinks they live such an idyllic life as to not have any of these connections, I would encourage them to delve deeper as they may just be in denial.
Jan 17, 2018Destiny of Detours pulled at my heartstrings as it took me thru a young girls recollection of an abusive upbringing. Annalise's childhood torment set her up for an emotionally challenging adulthood. She reveals how near self destruction forces her to seek theraphy and self-awareness. Her journey took me on an exhilarating ride of good times and bad times. Thru friends, groups and therapist Annalise finds support in her struggle to find acceptance, health, and peace. This woman's life story helped me realize that each of us are somehow effected by dependency, illness or abuse in some way. I feel everyone can benefit by this story by realizing our understanding and compassion can help heal.
Jan 15, 2018“Destiny of Detours” is a an account of a woman’s personal story. Annalise shares about growing up in an alcoholic home where she experiences abuse and rejection, and how she struggles throughout her life with addictions, relationships and mental illness. It is at times heartbreaking as she shares her personal experiences, but also encouraging as she shares her experience, strength and hope about how she rises above them, through determined hard work as she honestly faces her fears, one day at a time, rising above her set backs, with the help of 12 Step Programs, Therapy, and other Self help groups. I recommend this book to anyone who is suffering from or involved with someone suffering from Mental Illnesses, Addictions, or Co-Dependency, whether it be a child, spouse, parent or friend. Thank you Annalise for writing this inspiring book of experiences, strength, and hope. You have given me inspiration and hope for myself and loved ones. God Bless!
Nov 16, 2017An honest and sometimes ugly account of a single troubled life. Troubled by rejection, and addiction, and mental illness, Analise grows up in an alchoholic home, and through her life comes to terms with her life with understanding. Read it through to the very end, and discover courage and hope, against all odds.
